A Lesson In History

This week marks three important dates in history all from the same year. On August 6, 1945 the 1st atomic bomb was released in anger over a medium sized port city in Japan. Hiroshima was reduced to rubble in a matter of seconds. A few days later on the 9th of August, a second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. Three days later the Japanese Empire surrendered to General Douglas MacArthur aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. The United States is the only nation in the world to ever release an atomic weapon in anger. And since then, we have exercised great restraint in not repeating this horror. Two Japanese cities reduced to ashes killing over 50,000 casualties in 2 days showing the world the power of the atomic age. Over the following years, the numbers of deaths attributed to those two blasts number in the hundreds of thousands. Am I sorry that we dropped those bombs? No. Why? Because it saved millions of American and Japanese lives. The Imperial Japanese Command would have fought on for every inch of ground even if it caused the deaths of every life on the Japanese home islands. The United States saw and recognized the horrific results of these two blasts and adopted policies under which future releases of these weapons would be governed. And to our credit, we have been faithful to those policies. All during the Cold War, the nations of the Soviet Union and the United States were on the brink of releasing these weapons on a moment's notice. Upon the fall of the Soviet Bear, vast numbers of atomic weapons made their way out of the government's control and are now feared to be on the open arms market. Our new fear is a terrorist with his eyes on the rewards of Ala, will get his hands on an atomic device left over from the Soviet Cold War buildup. During our 60 year celebration of the ending of World War II, let us not forget that we have been attacked very few times in our history. The British attacked us in 1812 & 1814, the Japanese attacked us in 1941, and Islamic Terrorists attacked us in 2001. We kicked the British out, and now they are our friends and closest allies. We beat back the Japanese and now they are one of our strongest economic partners. An now, we are engaged in a war against terrorism which sorry to say is the calling card of Islamic Terrorists. We have made great strides in Afghanistan. Free elections and genuine assistance from the local Afghan people. It is suspected that our enemies have retreated into Pakistan where we cannot get to them. Iraq is going better than the nightly news would have you believe. Iraqis too have held free elections, are in the process of drafting a Constitution, are taking more control of their own country and paving the way for us to one day turn over daily control of the streets of Iraq to Iraqi Security Forces. Schools are being built, infrastructure is being replaced and rebuilt, phone lines, free press, and the list goes on and on. The nightly news doesn't tell the good happening in that war torn country. Only that 7 soldiers died yesterday or 14 last week. Now there is a mother of a fallen US soldier who is out there under the wing of the likes of Michael Moore. Being used by the anti-war movement. Being used in a way that dishonors the sacrifice of her brave son. The man did not die dishonorably, so why does she now dishonor him? She is selfish. Selfish in a way that her son was not. I served in the Army. And I can tell you if I were still in and asked to go, I wouldn't question it. I would fight. And if I were to die I would do so knowing that it could happen. I chose to go into the military. I chose to submit myself to the will of my President and to the need of my country. And so did this brave hero. Anti-war protests, political instability, and micro-managing the military operations in Vietnam is what created that quagmire. The Anti-war protesters who are comparing Iraq to Vietnam are making an erroneous comparison. Our commanders on the ground in Iraq have total control. During Vietnam, the war was run from the White House and the Pentagon in Washington not on the ground in Vietnam. Keep in mind that the United States never lost an engagement in Vietnam. And we didn't actually lose. For political reasons we pulled out and left an allied nation to be swallowed up by the aggressors. Why? Politics in the United States. The only way that Iraq can turn into another Vietnam is if we do what the protesters are suggesting. Pull out and we will lose. Stay and beat back the enemies of the world and we will win. And make no mistake, these aren't just enemies of the United States, they are the enemies of the world. We are the biggest dog on the block and the new stray is trying to establish themselves by taking on us. Well, it is time we give them the ass kicking that they deserve and quit second guessing our military commanders.
The day that this woman who is dishonoring the memory of her own son graduates the US War College, is privy to the daily intelligence reports, takes a weapon and stands a post, then I will listen to her. But until then she hasn't the slightest idea what she is talking about. She is just parroting what Michael Moore, Code Pink, and other leftist organizations are spewing. And in doing so damaging the memory of her son. And by her association with Michael Moore, Code Pink, and the other anti-war organizations, she is lending aid and comfort to the enemies of this nation. And this is a time of war. The Constitution only addresses one crime specifically and she is on the border of falling into it. Support the ACLU who refuses to fill out paperwork required by the federal government in compliance with the Patriot Act. Paperwork designed to combat terrorism. But instead of filling out the Counter Terrorism paperwork, they simply refuse the funding. It is time that the FBI investigates the ACLU in relation to Article III Section III:
Clause 1:
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.
Clause 2:
The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.
These terrorist supporters have refused millions of dollars in funding from other non-profit organizations within the past year because of their support of terrorists. And their refusal to fill out the Counter terrorism paperwork required under the Patriot Act. Do you suppose that funding was their real opposition to the Patriot Act? I think so. Their civil liberties opposition is just smoke and mirrors.
